and im really down with the flu bug. zzz. one of the worst times to fall ill mans! probably like what Leona say, my body is rejecting work!! :( sigh, suckiest feeling. I need some TLC!! haha.

anyway wanted to see the doctor but it's so ridiculous! the clinic's open but there's no doctor! he's on reservist. so I have no doc to see :( but seriously, why bother to open the clinic when there's no doc!!

Absolut Vodka (31/365)

Absolut Vodka keep coming out with different designs on their bottles for the collectors. For a period of time when i was younger, i really thought the bottles were cool. limited editions every season. but vodka is not really my kind of drink. i prefer wine or beer. =) here's my red pic of the day. green with envy

im taking a picture of myself because I'm greeennn with envy!! my best friend is away in Bali enjoying herself!! in a nice big villa with a beautiful sun deck and great service. and she's blissfully moving on to her next stage in life =) happy for her! but here I am, having the Monday blues, never ending work, turning green with the flu virus and struggling with an emotional battle. how not to be envious :( ok enough of ranting! haha.

inconvenience

I almost couldn't find my pic of the day today but got saved at the last minute on the way home.

anyway the lift at my flat has been under construction for a few months now. it's rather inconvenient having to rely on one lift. waiting time can be really long in the morning. well, guess its a good reason to start taking the stairs more!

Spiderman (28/365)

Saw this at Toys'r'us today. I remember catching the first Spiderman movie when I was in secondary school. I like the show but little do i know he is a fictional Marvel Comics superhero. And there are actually alot alot more stories to spiderman. So many villians, so many spidermans. There are actually more than one spiderman. I dunno much about the comic spiderman. I just watch the movie. Good enough. =)

new tradition

I like having traditions :) started a lo hei tradition at sakae with my sheesheeps babes last yr. and we continued this yr! hoping to keep this!

love jap food! but dont really like sakae. I'm an all-time sushi tei fan! dinner was still good. well company is all that matters =)

Red car (27/365)

I rarely get to sit the bf's father's car. And today i was like eh? this car is red too! i love it when we have transport. sometimes after a long party, it would be good to drive home instead of waiting for the public transport. but of course, when you drive, you can't drink! haha! i got to drink today while the bf had to refrain cos he's driving. =)

how can I not include my all time favourite drink in this project!=) haven't been in the best of moods lately. and I seek comfort in a cuppa milo. the wonders it does to me. friends who know me will know how big a milo fan I am! a cup of milo never fails to make me feel better, even on the shittiest of days! =)

Fast Food Again! (26/365)

i was wondering to myself today as i stared at Colonel Sanders today, why are all fast food restaurant signs all red? Macs also, KFC also. I really don't want to take fast food again but the redness of it shouts out to me! Haha!

The Merry Men

most people returned to work post cny today while i had an extra day off :) had a really chilled evening at Robertson quay. I'm in love with that area!

checked out merry men today (86 Robertson Quay) and I thought it was good. probably cos the place was pretty empty. We had the escargot, truffle fries and roast duck with lychee pizza. all were super yummy!! lychee pizza might not sound right. but surprisingly the lychee added a refreshing taste to it! nice!!

they also have draught beers. happy hours going for $9/pint! good deal! do check out their other drinks promo! looks quite worth it! there's also an acoustic live band every wed and sat.

I'll definitely head back there again!

my cny is as boring as my pictures :( day 2 of cny ended pretty early for me. guess the highlight of my cny is only the non stop feasting.

Here's a question. After a couple gets married, do they give out red packets straight away? or is there a one year rule that u don't have to give? I hear all sort and versions of traditions. So which is it? Oh! And after a couple gets married, have to give the parents too?? hmmm...

Once a year

it's that time of the year again where you get to meet relatives who you see only once a year. today's the first day of Chinese new year and as usual made the rounds of visitation.

what a day of feasting!! ate a meal at almost every house i visited. and that's about 4-5 houses. haha! well I guess it's easier to stuff my mouth with food and keep my tummy happy than trying hard to make small talks with people. as for drinks, I prefer the non carbonated packet ones than gassy soft drinks!

Fortune Cookie (23/365)

Happy Lunar New Year! I had to use this as my red picture of the day because it is so cute! I was at my aunt's place when this fortune cookie was offered to me. I'm not a cookie eater (Thank God) but because this was so adorable i had to take it when it was offered.

I don't believe much about fortune being told in a cookie but i do like this marketing concept. I'm a closet Spongebob fan actually! Shhh.. don't tell.

I had to post this today. Coke is the most common drink around for ages!! Do you know no one can really tell the difference between Pepsi and coke yet if you ask anyone, they prefer coke! their marketing works!! =)

it's 初夕today! a time where families gather to have reunion dinner. we started with lao yu sheng! to a better and prosperous new year!

the different ingredients and colors of the dish have their own symbolism but im too lazy to type them out. you can go google it if u r interested :) well i only like yu sheng for the salmon slices! heehee.

Spring clean!

what a tiring day! spent the entire day spring cleaning my room. it's finally in a decent state to live in! haha. but think this happens only a few days in the year. =p

it is a usual tradition where families spring clean the house in preparation for the new year. throwing out the old to welcome the new. most usually start a few weeks before the festival. well for me, I've been procrastinating for the longest time, having to bear with my mum's naggings for the past few weeks! my room's finally clean and tidy!! :)

oh yes, do remember to recycle when doing it!

Ravioli in Tomato Sauce (21/365)

first and foremost, i need to apologise for my digression away from cny theme. Just for this day! I'm celebrating my 6th anniversary in a different way-->



I decided to cook something i never cook before and that is to make ravioli from scratch. I'm actually a avid cook wanna be. Trying all sorts of food from scratch. =)

Wang Lai!

ok gonna cheat abit today. today's picture is part of the pineapple. this is a common cny decorative item. the pineapple lantern. and I realise red and green really go well together!

anyway Chinese loves using pineapple as a symbol of wealth. cos it sounds like 'Wang Lai' in teochew dialect, which means 'wealth come'. as for me, I'm just thankful for the pineapple tarts during cny! woots so yummy!

Preparing for reunion dinner (20/365)

I don't mean to be advertising for Skylight. Just so happen that the soup stock we are preparing to use for reunion dinner is Skylight's Abalone Superior Stock.

I'm never a person to use chicken cubes, or stock or even canned stock for my steamboat. I prefer boiling my own stock. This year, due to busy schedule and generous relative, mum decided to use this instead.

But i have to say, i would have still preferred my own stock!! =)

Lucky Bamboo

there are a few typical plants people buy for decorative purpose during cny like the pussy willow. and I'm sure most of you would have come across the Lucky Bamboo (aka Fortune bamboo).

it's usually refer to as 开运竹, which means 'bamboo that brings good fortune'. guess its more fengshui related. the funny things Chinese come up with.

i don't believe in fengshui but I find this plant interesting. the one I found is the mini version stacked in layers. there's also the big ones that can be twisted into different shapes. I'm sure you will come across them this cny :)

福 （19/365）

this is a common sight during the cny period. You almost can see this word all over. But do you know the true meaning of it?

The right half of "福" (fú) (meaning blessedness) may be reduced to "一口田" (yī kǒu tián), which means literally, 'one mouth [and] padi-field.' One who has a padi-field to provide for himself can be happy. But this happiness is temporary and partial. A buffalo can have the same level of happiness if it is given a field to graze in.

True blessedness goes beyond the emotional feeling of happiness.

The left half of "福" (fú), "礻" (shì), which means 'God', gives the answer to true blessedness. In addition to being materially satisfied, one needs God in order to be truly blessed.

True blessedness is an everlasting joy that comes about because our sins are forgiven and we have peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

who says cny must be all red. I can find green festive things to join in the cny series too! and the first green item I found is...Pomelo!

so did abit of googling and here are some facts about pomelo:
- largest citrus fruit in the world!
- signifies abundance as the chinese word for pomelo sounds like 'to have'
- one pomelo is usually shared among a family during cny, symbolising unity.

i like how the pulps burst in my mouth when you eat it. you cant get pomelo all year round, unlike apples and oranges. they are usually only in season in mid-jan to feb which is the cny period. so yes, go get one now!

when it comes to cny, how can we forget about the goodies!! my house only has 3 persons in it and this year, we have so many cookies that i doubt we can finish! need to open up the house for more people to come!

Mandarin oranges (17/365)

i'm going to start a series for cny. Anyway this is my month to blast the redness all over the blog! Anyway. mandarin oranges are always used during Chinese New Year. Do you know the meaning behind it?

Mandarin oranges (桔) are very popular and welcome in Guangzhou. In Cantonese, the Chinese character 桔 (ji, meaning orange) and has the same pronunciation as 吉 (ji, meaning harvest and good luck). Besides this special meaning, the mandarin orange has a beautiful golden color which adds to the lunar New Year festive atmosphere.

isn't this nostalgic? did you buy those cookies from your guide friends last time? well this is one of the old tins I kept from last time. it's the mint choc flavored one. actually these cookies taste like Tim Tams. I wonder if the guides still do sell them annually?

have i not open my eyes big enough to notice red bins around? but i thought they are always green? anyway, even dustbins in red look so pretty!!!everyone please throw your rubbish in pretty bins and don't litter, k?

blister be gone!

yesterday's range session resulted in a huge blister on my finger. protected it with a plaster. as with most of my stuff, I like them with colours. who uses boring ugly plasters when you can get cute colourful ones!

i love vintage! especially if they are red in colour. I want something like that in my house next time, so pretty! Project 365 has made me fall in love with red ever more than before. =)

swing it!

sticking to my resolution of staying fit, started my day early and headed to the driving range to hit some balls today! been a year since I brought out my clubs to play! managed to get the swing back abit! but having blisters is no fun :( ouch.

This pair of shoes are worn by this small boy. So eye catching that I had to take it as my red item of the day. Kudos to my effort!

Friday commitments

after 2 months of free fridays, cell has resumed for the year. it was nice being back and fellowshipping. though I'm a teeny weeny sad my friday plans with friends have to be shelved for now. but yes, always good to be in the presence of God! =)

i hate fast food chilli sauce! (12/365)

i love all chilli, belachan, sambal, tom yum, whatever, you name it, i love it. but somehow, i hate fast food chilli sauce, be it from mos, kfc or macs. so whenever i go to fast food places, i will ask for ketchup. one of my friend always laugh at me saying, "only small kids eat tomato sauce!" ("___"!)

I always wanted to donate blood. My blood is the multi purpose O+ but i'm afraid of needles. i'm afraid of inexperienced staff drawing my blood, poke and poke. heard too much horror stories about such people. and i heard after donating blood, got hot milo and biscuits, is it true? haha! i will never know

New mall!

I've been hearing quite abit about the new mall in the east. so we headed down to check it out today!

well, it has your usuals such as soup spoon, coffee bean, cotton on etc, like most other malls in sg. i also spotted a starhub store there! (my pic of the day) but what differentiates this mall is probably their outlet stores. there's Adidas, g2000, lacoste, crocs etc. not too bad. think it's a good hangout place for those working at changi biz park but dont think I'll be heading there often. too far! haha.

red building no more? (8/365)

as you can see, this red building located along the katong road seems to be under some sort of construction. will it be tore down? or just revamping? hopefully there will be answer at the end of project 365.

with cny just 2 weeks away, everyone is starting to stock up groceries and goodies. im sure you'll be able to spot these green baskets and maybe even use them when shopping at NTUC Fairprice.

personally I enjoy grocery shopping, walking down the many aisles and seeing the latest offers and new products etc. might be cos of my job influence also. hee. anyway I'm really glad about Fairprice's move to stop selling shark's fin! yay to being socially responsible! save the earth! =)
