Movie Review: X-Men Origins: Wolverine

29 April is the opening day of this movie and i bet this could be one of the reason why the cinemas are so crowded today!! at least those cinemas in the east i saw. I even saw this son and daughter-in-law or daughter and son-in-law brought their mother to watch it. I thought that was quite cool. Even this old couple, with white hair and all were seen squeezing into the cinema just to catch this show.

I'm not much of a X-Men fan so i didn't read the comics or catch the cartoon. maybe many people out there are better judges than me but i think some might feel that the movie didn't do justice to the cartoons or comics. Think they changed the story a little. But I have to say here, sometimes making a movie out of comics or cartoon can be challenging. They just try to capture everything that's main point here. Sometimes if there are details that needs further and further elaboration, of course they will change that detail. just to make it easier to depict and that they can put it in film to bring across that point in merely 5 mins, let's say? So yups... it's still very much enjoyable for X-men or Marvel fans.

Just wanna let you guys know... stay a little while, maybe 2 mins after the credits roll in. there's something behind. Well.. there's always something behind for Marvel movies right?

Movie Review: 17 Again

What would you do if you got a second shot at life? Maybe not so for those who are younger than 25 but New Line Cinema presents...

Class of 1989, Mike ODonnell is a star on his high school basketball court with a college scout in the stands and a bright future in his grasp. But instead, he decides to throw it all away to share his life with his girlfriend Scarlett and the baby he just learned they are expecting.

Almost 20 years later, Mikes glory days are decidedly behind him. His marriage to Scarlett has fallen apart, he has been passed over for a promotion at work, his teenage kids think he is a loser, and he has been reduced to crashing with his high school nerd-turned-techno-billionaire best friend Ned. But Mike is given another chance when he is miraculously transformed back to the age of 17. Unfortunately, Mike may look 17 again, but his thirtysomething outlook is totally uncool in the class of 2009. And in trying to recapture his best years, Mike could lose the best things that ever happened to him.

I'm sure Zac Efron (Young Mike O'Donnell) is not strange to most people out there. Especially the younger people. He starred in the muscial "Hairspray", which was a hit in 2007. However, the beginning of the movie could be a disappointment to some. It’s bit early to say that Zac has grown up to a serious adult actor, but we did see some quite promising points in him. And not to mention how charming he is. Especially that smile!

A predictable storyline but heart warming. I have to admit i think Leslie Mann (who play older Scarlet) was pretty hot in this show. My opinion la. Sophisticated mum.

Not a weekend worthy film in my opinion but nice enough for a weekday afternoon of relaxation.

Movie Review: Fast & Furious 4

Fast and furious fans, the latest Fast & Furious 4 is out!

Heading back to the streets where it all began, they rejoin Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster to blast muscle, tuner and exotic cars across Los Angeles and floor through the Mexican desert in the new high-octane action-thriller, produced by director Justin Lin.

When a crime brings them back to L.A., fugitive ex-con Dom Toretto (Diesel) reignites his feud with agent Brian OConner (Walker). But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmaneuver him. And from convoy heists to precision tunnel crawls across international lines, two men will find the best way to get revenge: push the limits of whats possible behind the wheel.

Seriously, i shouldn't comment too much on a film that i personally never watched for the last 3 series but the fast cars, hot babes and sensation that the movie gave me is unforgettable. To most guys out there, they most probably watch it cos they are into fast cars, as well as they have been a fan since the 1st Fast & Furious, maybe the hot babes as well. The babes in the show are really not bad at all plus the thrilling feeling i get when watching the cars race. One part of the movie, i was clutching on tightly to the seat the entire race without realising it until later.

Having not watched the first 3 movies, it's not hard to catch on. It's just another fast thrilling movie. I realised when a particular movie came out to the 4th series, it's impossible to keep going forward and forward into the future so they have to backtrack and go back to the past.

Movie Review: Knowing

Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage (National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Leaving Las Vegas) stars in KNOWING, a gripping action-thriller of global proportions about a professor who stumbles on terrifying predictions about the future and sets out to prevent them from coming true.


In 1959, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures of what they think the future will look like. Their drawings will be sealed into a time capsule and stored for 50 years. But one mysterious girl fills her paper with rows of apparently random numbers, which she says are being whispered to her by unseen people.


50 years later, a new generation of students examines the capsules contents and the girls cryptic message ends up in the hands of young Caleb Koestler (Chandler Canterbury), but it is Calebs' father, astrophysics professor John Koestler (Nicolas Cage), who makes a startling discovery: the encoded message predicts the dates and death tolls of every major disaster of the past 50 years with pinpoint accuracy. As he further unravels the documents secrets, John discovers that it foretells three additional catastrophes, the last of which hints at destruction on a global scale.


When John's attempt to alert the authorities fall on deaf ears, he takes it upon himself to try to prevent more destruction from taking place.His fears intensify with the realization that his son, Caleb is somehow connected to the mystery. With the relunctant help of of Diana Wayland (Rose Byrne) and Abby Wayland (Lara Robinson), the daughter and granddaughter of the prophetic messages author, he embarks on a heart-pounding race against time to prevent the ultimate disaster - and the ultimate sacrifice.


Knowing is an edge-of-the-seat psychological thriller with special effects that are going to blow your mind. However, if you look beyond, it's really more than that. What I also see, is the love of parents: How far would you go to protect your loved ones. This is a movie like an emotional rollercoaster that leaves u guessing at every turn.


Movies with apocalyptic themes are particularly resonant with audiences because of the environmental issues the world is dealing with. The film makers hope that this movie would be the kind that audiences still talk about long after they leave the cinema.

Movie Review: Hotel for Dogs

When 16 years old Andi and her younger brother, Bruce find themselves in a foster home with a strict no pets policy, Andi has to use her quick wit to help find a new home for their dog Friday. Despite warnings to stay out of trouble from their sympathetic social worker Bernie, the kids stumble upon a abandoned hotel and begin transforming it into the perfect home for Friday and all the strays in the city running the risk of being separated if they're caught. In no time, the kids have transformed the old hotel into something truly magical: a home for both the dogs and for themselves.

"Hotel for Dogs" stars Emma Roberts, Jake T. Austins, Kyla Pratt with Lisa Kudrow, Kevin Dillon and Don Cheadle in a smart, funny comedy adventure that shows how far love and imagination can take you.

I first spotted Johnny Simmons (extreme right) in "Evan Almighty". Thought he was cute then, it was a surprise to see him in this show. Johnny Simmons is set to become one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood. Hailing from Texas, it did not take him long to get his first role in "Evan Almighty". For as much as I know, he currently resides in Los Angeles. Let's hope he don't grow up and turn into some ugly person like alot of child actor gone bad.

And this is the main star of the show i would say. How can anyone resist this movie? especially the dog lovers. Of many difficult movies to film, I would say one of the hardest is one with animals as the stars. It take really trained dogs to do those cute litte movements or actions we want them to do. As a non-dog lover, I will recommend anyone to go watch this. The dogs in the show are really cute and I love the idea of a Hotel for Dogs.

A light-hearted movie of fun and laughter, with moving tears as well. Watch it for a good laugh. Definitely leave the cinema smiling.

Movie Review: Confessions of a Shopaholic

In the glamorous world of New York City, Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) is a fun-loving girl who is really good at shoppinga little too good, perhaps. She dreams of working for her favorite fashion magazine, but can't quite get her foot in the dooruntil ironically, she snags a job as an advice columnist for a financial magazine published by the same company. As her dreams are finally coming true, she goes to ever more hilarious and extreme efforts to keep her past from ruining her future.

A movie based on the best selling novel by Sophia Kinsella. Apparently, the novel has been around since ages and i'm sure alot of girls out there have read it. some people think that the movie was a tad disappointing. The movie changed alot of details from the book and people who have read the book might get a totally different feel about the story.

Well, if we watched it with an open mind and for people like me who has never read the book before, this movie is pretty hilarious. A film dedicated to all female, especially the shopaholics. Lots of fashion, lots of brands from gucci to Vera Wang. It's definitely a must catch chick flick and be dazzled by the galmourous New York City and the mannequins with lovely clothes!

Movie Review: Race to Witch Mountain

A picture from Walt Disney which apparently is another version of their beloved Witch Mountain franchise. A newer version from the original one. This film is released in Singapore on 13 March 2009. Dwayne Johnson ('The Rock') stars as a taxi driver, Jack Bruno, who picked up two teenagers (Anna Sophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig) without knowing who they are initially. Jack Bruno then finds himself starting an adventure that he cannot explain. Not only does the brother and sister possess supernatural powers, but they're also trying desperately to escape their enemy who will only stop if the pair dies. Or if they destroy him first. Working together, Jack and his young passengers discover that the only chance to save the world lies in unraveling the secrets of Witch Mountain, and the race begins.

The film is based on the book "Escape to Witch Mountain" by Alexander Key. It is a modern day re-imagining of Key's book which was made into the 1975 Disney classics "Escape to Witch Moutain" and whose character inspired the 1978 film sequel, "Return from Witch Mountain." The two movies were popular science-fiction adventures that became warmly recalled touchstones of youth as audiences grew from children to adult.

So, not having being born in the seventies, i didn't catch the original one of course. this film could be better, could be worse but for many adults out there, it could bring back memories. Thus, I would say it's a film enjoyable by the young and old. The young will love the science-fiction, that i am sure.

The movie has its flaws and its strengths. Lots of action, with a touch of humour in it. Though i felt the humour was kind of known to all who actually caught the trailer. Maybe the storyline is so-so to alot of pple who was born in the eighties like me. and who is a young female adult, not knowing how to appreciate science fiction. But the cast is good, that i have to admit. The Rock is fantastic in this role and i appreciate him more in such movies, rather than the serious violent types. If I wanted violence, I would have chosen WWE. That's better.

Well, it's a family-friendly movie. Whoever reads this, you can decide if you want to watch it. Personally, I feel I won't get weekend tickets for this. Or not at all. Just another action with humour in it.
